Relaxation, sea and seaside walks: is that your idea of a holiday? Then why not visit Celle Ligure? Renowned as a seaside resort, this charming town on the Western Riviera, blessed with Liguria’s characteristically mild climate, is actually perfect for unwinding at any time of year.
The town centre is divided into two distinct areas: to the east, the Piani di Celli, a modern zone that developed following the boom in seaside tourism; to the west, the historic centre proper, which grew up along a watercourse that is now largely covered over. The two areas are linked by the typical seafront promenade, in this case created from the old railway line (the current railway runs inland from the historic centre).
There are plenty of sports activities you can enjoy in and around Celle Ligure: hiking, mountain biking, sailing, windsurfing, sport fishing, diving, tennis, horse riding and more. There are also numerous services and entertainment options for younger visitors, making Celle Ligure an excellent choice for family holidays. The beaches are mostly sandy, easily accessible and equipped with all necessary facilities.
The overall picture is postcard-perfect Liguria, with terraced hillsides rising behind the village and a historic centre characterised by pastel-coloured houses and narrow alleyways. Add in reasonably priced hotels and you’ll understand why so many people choose Celle Ligure for their holidays.

The best way to appreciate the beauty of Celle Ligure and its surrounding landscape is to take a walk along the Passeggiata Romana, the scenic pedestrian path that runs parallel to the main road and seafront promenade at a much higher level. From here you can enjoy wonderful views over the town and sea.
The Passeggiata Romana is lined with splendid villas and historic houses with lush gardens; access is via a flight of steps that you’ll encounter at the start of the town coming from Varazze.
Just a few minutes’ drive from Celle Ligure lies the Beigua Regional Natural Park, a protected regional park of considerable interest. It’s Liguria’s largest protected natural area and has been designated a UNESCO Geopark due to the geological significance of the territory.
The park is crossed by an extensive network of trails totalling over 500 km, with routes for all levels of ability. Some are specifically designed to showcase the area’s scenic beauty, whilst others focus on cultural or geological themes. The park also encompasses a section of the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri and the Sentiero Liguria, two of the region’s most renowned and appreciated hiking routes.
If you prefer cycling to walking, the Beigua park has two cycle routes along low-traffic paved roads: the Anello del Beigua and the Anello delle Valli del SOL, which connect to other routes in the Ligurian Cycling Network.
Both include some challenging sections with climbs recommended for experienced riders and easier stretches suitable for everyone; they can be tackled in either direction.
The park also has Nordic walking trails and snowshoe routes for those wanting to explore the park during the colder months.
You don’t need to tackle strenuous treks to enjoy some greenery and fresh air during a holiday in Celle Ligure: simply head up to the Pineta Luisa Russo ai Bottini (more commonly known as Pineta Bottini), the town’s most famous viewpoint.
This pine wood, perched dramatically above the sea, is a public garden open from morning to evening and, despite its hilltop location, can be reached effortlessly from the historic centre.
You can skip the climb thanks to a convenient lift accessible from Via Cassisi in the town centre. Once you exit the lift, a flat, easy and short walk awaits; within minutes you’ll find yourself in an oasis of peace surrounded by greenery, with breathtaking views.
There are numerous benches, picnic areas and children’s play areas.
